JAPAN
2023
If Japan were a colour, it might be soft lilac blue. A delicate shade that captures your gaze and invites reflection. As a soundtrack, it would play a tender and peaceful score. Ambient notes drifting quietly. The scent, a subtle sweetness of flowers — the kind where you can almost taste the promise of renewal. I’d imagine its texture as the smoothness of silk. Maybe even the weathered grain of aged wood, each touch imbued with the weight of history.
How would Japan dance on my tastebuds? Layers of well-brewed tea that lingers on the palate, revealing new depths with every sip. If it moves, then it flutters gracefully, like maple leaves detaching in their end of days. Strangely enough, I’ve had this image of Japan for the longest time, and it remained unchanged when I became an observer here.
Japan is a puzzle waiting to be unravelled. It’s both familiar and alien, with the ability to delight and baffle. Every task, sight, and interaction feels like I’m on a gameshow or like a kid on a glucose rush. A land binded by fine threads of history and culture, intermingling seamlessly with modernity. To me, Japan feels like a quiet early morning, akin to its ethos. Of course, there’s the fiery, loud, and energetic pulse beneath the surface. But what you seek is seeking you, yes.
So tell me, what does Japan feel like to you?
